Now, I know what yer thinkin’—how’s a dog got a chainsaw fer a face? Well, manga got all sorts o’ strange things, don’t it?
So Denji, poor boy, he takes on all kinds o’ nasty jobs as a Devil Hunter. That means he gotta go ‘round killin’ devils with that chainsaw-dog Pochita, just so he can pay off his father’s debt to them yakuza folks. Can ya believe that? Poor kid’s out there fightin’ devils like his life depended on it—’cause it sure does! But don’t go thinkin’ it’s a happy job. Naw, it’s dangerous as all get-out, and he’s always on the edge of starvin’ to death.
Chapter 1 kicks off with Denji doin’ his regular devil-huntin’ business. This boy’s chasin’ cash, doin’ what he can to survive, but you can see plain as day, he ain’t got no joy. Just works, works, and works, all to get that money. An’ the real sad part? Them yakuza folks he’s workin’ fer don’t even care ‘bout him. They up and betray him! Toss him right to the wolves, or devils, ya might say. Poor Denji, thinkin’ he got somethin’ good goin’, and they stab him right in the back, leavin’ him fer dead. Can ya believe that betrayal?
Now here’s where things get all kinds of twisted. This devil huntin’ ain’t just fightin’ big ol’ meanies. Naw, it’s about survival, too. So Denji, lyin’ there after the yakuza’s mess with ‘im, Pochita decides to make a sacrifice. That lil’ chainsaw dog fella decides he’s gonna save Denji’s life by fusin’ with ‘im. So Denji don’t just stay some regular human no more—naw, he’s somethin’ different now. He’s got the power o’ that chainsaw devil in him! Think ’bout that fer a sec—kid’s now a walkin’, talkin’ human chainsaw, ready to rip apart anything in his way!
So, this first chapter, it don’t just show ya what Denji’s up against. It pulls ya right in, makin’ ya wonder how this poor boy’s gonna deal with life now that he’s somethin’ else. It’s dark, it’s gritty, and it’s got this strange kinda hope, if ya can call it that. Denji’s life might be rough, but now he’s got a bit more fight in him thanks to Pochita.
